A big thank you to all of you who participated in our second Virtual Job Summit in early April. You made it a big success! Our participating employers were pleased with the quality of the scientists they met.
Thanks also to Coach Tom and Lauren Celano, who devoted their time to giving one on one advice to scientists who needed job search strategy, resume, and interview help. These sessions were also a great success, judging by the comments of some jobseekers who availed themselves of these opportunities.
A Virtual Job Summit: Meet employers from all over the country sitting at your own desk.
Ten years ago, if I might make a guesstimate, such an idea would have not excited the same amount of attention for job seekers or employers. Mainly because the job market was thriving with job seekers that were well acquainted with the big, no holds barred, venue based job fairs.
The live event for the Virtual Job Summit is just around the corner. For many, it will mean the opportunity to present yourself and your credentials to some very attractive employers. However, you should know that there’s also an opportunity to meet each other and network with your peers.
On October 5th at 4.30 pm EST, we will be holding a Biopharma Networking Chat for those interested in careers in Biopharma in the Jobseekers Lounge. On October 6th at 11 am EST, we will have one for those seeking an Academic position, also in the Lounge.
We’re very excited about the upcoming Virtual Job Summit, and all of the events and recruiting that’s going to happen. Already, 400 of you talented scientists have signed up for the Event, and there are still 2 weeks to go. We’ve got a great slate of employers, and are building virtual booths for still more.
A number of you will meet recruiters at the Job Summit who find that your background matches well with their needs. They will either want more time with you or to introduce you to their hiring manager (the line manager for whom you would work).
As the October 5th and 6th live days at the Virtual Job Summit approach, you probably have a few thoughts in mind. How can I best take advantage of these live days? How do I make a stong impression in a video chat? Here are X steps that can help.

Did you know that 75% of our jobseekers are experienced alumni who are out there working in a broad range of occupations? Do you think it would be helpful in your job search if those ahead of you gave you some insights on the pluses and minuses of those employers (be they Postdoc Programs, Biopharmas, Government Agencies, or Non-profits)?

The Job Summit is here! If you haven’t already, you’ll want to sign up and visit the virtual environment.
For Employers, please know that we will continue to add booths to the event until October 4th. It’s never too late to put your organization forward to this very talented set of postgraduate life scientists. We have booths of all sizes to fit all budgets.
For Jobseekers, welcome to the event. Come on in and visit. In the event, you’ll find:
If you haven’t heard by now, Bio Careers is holding the world’s first Virtual Job Summit for life science Master’s and PhD graduates starting in August. Job seekers will be able to meet with employers from a significant number of top training institutions in the U.S. It will be set up with virtual booths, “office hours,” and links to job listings on the Bio Careers job board.
Having talked with many life science employers and many scientist candidates for their jobs over the past five years, one overarching theme for successful candidates has come to mind. The most attractive candidates are those who have done the deep search to figure out what their “second passion” is. Clearly, every scientist who has earned a postgraduate degree has a passion for science. Many have a goal to continue in academia as a professor.
